Eight passengers, including an elderly man with a heart condition and a pregnant woman, faced a distressing situation after being left behind by a Norwegian Cruise ship on an African island.

Doug and Violeta Sanders, an Australian couple, shared their harrowing experience, describing it as "the worst of our lives". They recounted being abandoned on Sao Tome island after a private tour ran longer than expected, preventing them from boarding the Norwegian Dawn.

Stranded without resources

"We're stuck in a strange country, can't speak the language - it's Portuguese and African. We have no money, our credit cards aren't accepted," Mrs. Sanders lamented.

Frustrating attempts to rejoin ship

After seeking help from the US Embassy in Angola, the stranded passengers flew to Gambia to catch up with the ship in Banjul. However, due to low tide, the ship could not dock and proceeded to Senegal, leaving them in further distress.

Cruise company's response

A spokesperson for the cruise company clarified that the excursion was not organized by them and emphasized their commitment to timely arrivals.

American couple Jill and Jay Campbell, who went through extensive travel to reach Senegal, expressed doubts about boarding the ship again. They highlighted concerns about passenger safety and cruise ship policies.

Health risks safety concerns

The group includes elderly members, a paraplegic, and a pregnant woman, with one passenger enduring five days without heart medication, leading to illness. The incident raises concerns about passenger safety and cruise ship policies.
