Elephant garners love

This is a true story of friendship between two stunning elephants at our elephant camp in Theppakadu, Mudumalai, Tamil Nadu, named Bhama (75) and Kamatchi (65), who have been closest friends for the past 55 years, according to Sahu's post. In her post, she included multiple anecdotes about these friends. When Bhama took Thiru Gopan, his mahout, to graze in the wild, a leopard once attacked her. "Bhama saved her mother's life by chasing the leopard away on her own." When a tusker assaulted Kamatchi, it took years for her wound to heal, yet she persevered through it all. Sahu continued.

Bhama and Kamatchi eat together at the camp, even while they are standing next to one another. The officer wrote, "They adore sugarcane, and indeed, it is impossible to give the sugarcane treat to one person alone; it must always be provided to both." Sahu was also appreciative of the camp officials' efforts. "The management of the camp, which is among the oldest in Asia, deserves praise as well for providing such excellent care for these two and the other 27 elephants, including two calves.

TNFD provides updates!

In addition to using scientific management techniques, the Tamil Nadu Forest Department provides these gentle giants with the greatest care possible through empathy and sensitivity, as stated by Sahu in the article.
