Gurugram cafe gets notice after serving dry ice as mouth freshener

The Gurugram district food safety officer on Wednesday issued a show-cause notice to La Forestta cafe-cum-restaurant in Gurugram for non-compliance to the safety standards. This action comes after five people fell ill after allegedly being served dry ice instead of a mouth freshener at the establishment on March 3.

The notice demands a response from the cafe within 15 days explaining why their license should not be suspended or cancelled. The manager of the restaurant has been arrested, and two of the five individuals who consumed the dry ice remain hospitalized.

What is the incident all about?

On the evening of March 3, five people were dining at La Forestta restaurant in Gurugram when the incident happened. They were served dry ice, which they inadvertently consumed, causing them to throw up and bleed from their mouths. The police say that two of the five people are still in the hospital.

The video got surfaced on social media and this incident has highlighted concerns about food safety and hygiene standards at the cafe. Dry ice, which is solid carbon dioxide, is a dangerous substance if ingested and can cause serious health problems.
