A 32-year-old man allegedly murdered his girlfriend after she rejected his marriage proposal. The suspect, identified as Girish NL alias Rehan Ahmed, stabbed his girlfriend, Farida Khatoon, more than 15 times in a public area on Saturday.

According to authorities, the victim, Farida Khatoon, a 42-year-old mother of two daughters, worked at a unisex spa in the city for four years. Girish, a spare car driver, met her in 2022 during a visit to one of the spas in south Bengaluru, and they began a relationship.

How did the incident unfolded?

On the day of the incident, Khatoon returned from her hometown with one of her daughters, coinciding with Girish's birthday. They celebrated together and later went shopping and had lunch before heading to their hotel room in Jayanagar. Subsequently, they went out, visiting parks before Girish proposed to her at Shalini Ground. When Khatoon declined his proposal, Girish assaulted her and then fatally stabbed multiple times.

A tender coconut vendor alerted the police, who arrived at the crime scene. Meanwhile, Girish had fled from the crime scene after stabbing her. However, he surrendered at the Jayanagar police station around 8:30 PM. The murder weapon has yet to be recovered, as Girish allegedly disposed of it before turning himself in.

Investigations revealed that Girish, originally from a Hindu family, converted to Islam in 2011 and later reverted to his original name in 2016. However, he did not revert to his previous religious beliefs.
