Eid-ul-Fitr 2024: While Arab nations mark the joyous occasion of Eid on April 10, neighbouring Pakistan also joins the celebration today, on April 10. Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Moon Committee, announced the sighting of the Shawwal moon across Pakistan, proclaiming Wednesday as Eid. Addressing the media post the committee meeting, he confirmed reports of moon sightings from various regions in the country.

Unity Through Eid Celebrations

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad highlighted the widespread testimonies of moon sightings from across Pakistan, solidifying the decision to celebrate Eid on Wednesday. He noted that the crescent moon was spotted in cities such as Karachi, Dir, Faisalabad, and Skardu. Expressing felicitations to the nation, he underscored the message of unity conveyed by the simultaneous Eid celebrations across many nations globally. While Eid-ul-Fitr is embraced on Wednesday in Pakistan and numerous countries, India and Bangladesh will commemorate Eid on Thursday.

Eid Observance in India

In India, the sighting of the Eid moon eluded observers on Tuesday, leading to the completion of the 30th day of fasting today, Wednesday. Despite the moon committees confirming sightings on Tuesday, no corroborative reports emerged. Consequently, it was announced that Eid will be observed in India on Thursday. Indian Muslims will have observed 30 fasts, whereas their counterparts in Pakistan observed 29. Although Ramadan commenced concurrently in Pakistan and India, Eid celebrations align a day earlier with Arab nations.
