Delhi University professor's bold move: Cross-dress at fashion show garners attention

Delhi University is regarded as one of the top destinations for education by students for graduation and post-graduation courses. It has widely been known for its groundbreaking teaching-learning process, fests and festivals, thoughtful events and co-curricular activities. One such activity of the university is garnering widespread attention from the netizens.

A fashion show revolving around the theme of breaking entrenched stereotypes was exhibited at Delhi University. It showed participants cross-dressing to walk the stage. The participants, mostly professors were seen walking the ramp in colourful, vibrant and extraordinary outfits, switching roles, with men wearing sarees, and females seen styled in formals including trousers and shirts.

Breaking stereotypes

The video of the fashion show has surfaced and is garnering widespread attention because of its remarkable theme that aimed to challenge the stereotypical beliefs, systems and set standards that usually guide an individual's roles and duties, including what and what not should be worn by them. The video features a pair of professors walking the ramp, with the male stunning audiences with their ghaghra choli look and women looking effortlessly gorgeous in formals usually worn by men at work. The video was captioned as, "DU professors breaking all the stereotypes. Why should a dress define your gender?."

Mixed reactions from netizens

Though the video has taken up a bold issue to address, the netizens are responding differently. Some of them wrote that the act was "Shameless" while others called it "Cringe". One of the netizens wrote, "Oh no..this delhi universities seem to be the wuhan of wokeness. all these should be stopped and banned." Another user appreciated the efforts, but questioned if it was required to behave like women for wearing dresses worn by them. The user cited the example of Ranveer Singh saying that even though he wore a skirt, his attitude was classy.
