A distressing incident shook the streets of Delhi's Nand Nangri area earlier this week as a woman was critically injured after being hit and dragged by a car. The shocking sequence of events, captured on CCTV, has left the community reeling with shock and outrage.

A routine day turns tragic

For Abiba, a 21-year-old employed in Ghaziabad, April 9 started like any other day. Little did she know that it would take a devastating turn. Riding pillion on a bike with a colleague, her journey abruptly turned into a nightmare when a Maruti Swift crashed into them from behind. The impact sent Abiba sprawling onto the road, where she was mercilessly dragged for several meters by the fleeing car.

Locals rush to aid

Witnessing the horrifying scene, locals rushed to Abiba's aid and promptly transported her to a nearby hospital. However, her injuries were severe, and doctors pronounced her dead after multiple attempts to save her.

Culprit apprehended

Thanks to CCTV footage capturing the incident, law enforcement apprehended the prime suspect, 21-year-old Sunny Rawal, a resident of Ghaziabad. Rawal, who runs a general store with his father in the area, now faces charges related to the tragic hit-and-run.

DCP of North East Delhi confirmed the arrest on microblogging platform X. He posted, "In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Nand Nagri."

The post added that the accused driver has been arrested and the alleged car has also been seized by the police.

Calls for safety measures

This disturbing incident adds to a growing concern over road safety in Delhi, where similar incidents have occurred in the past. In February, an elderly man lost his life, and his granddaughter was seriously injured in a hit-and-run involving a luxury car in southwest Delhi's Dwarka Sector 17. The perpetrator fled the scene, leaving behind devastation and heartbreak.

As the community grapples with shock and grief, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Abiba's tragic ordeal. With the perpetrator in custody, efforts are underway to ensure justice is served and measures are taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
