As the festival of colours has come, Delhi Traffic Police has issued a traffic advisory and set up special teams at busy crossings to check for infractions like driving while intoxicated and jumping red lights.

According to the advisory, to protect pedestrians and drivers, traffic police have set up elaborate protocols. The officials will keep tabs on incidents involving driving under the influence, speeding, reckless driving, zigzag driving, red-light jumping, triple riding, driving by minors, riding two-wheelers without a helmet, and performing stunts on them.

Here’s what the advisory says

In accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Hon'ble Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, a driver's license may be seized and suspended for a minimum of three months if they are found guilty of driving under the influence, jumping red lights, using a phone while driving, reckless driving, or overspeeding. In addition, legal action will be taken against the registered owners of any vehicles discovered to be operated by unlicensed drivers, juveniles, stunt drivers, unregistered drivers, etc.

Apart from this, car owners will be held accountable if it is discovered that children or unauthorized persons are using their vehicles. The purpose of this action is to stop underage and unauthorized driving, which is a major problem in the nation's capital.

Further, the advisory has asked the general public and motorists to keep patience, observe traffic rules and road discipline and follow directions of traffic personnel deployed at all intersections and remain updated.
