New Delhi: Things took a shocking turn on the auspicious day of Mahashivratri in South Asian University in Delhi over serving vegetarian and non-vegetarian food together in the same mess. The Students Federation of India has allegedly accused the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad of the assault, although the ABVP has denied the assault. It has called it an attempt to disturb religious harmony.

A complaint has been lodged.

On  the other hand, ABVP has called all the allegations baseless. ABVP said that when the matter was discussed with the manager, 110 students said that they wanted fasting food. Accepting this demand of the students, the university administration arranged for satvik food in one of the two messes. There was a demand for separate arrangements for fruits, but non-vegetarian food was served along with vegetarian food in the mess.

When we protested, we were stopped and some students were beaten up. Non-vegetarian food fell on many students who were fasting. This has hurt their religious sentiments. ABVP Delhi's state minister Sarthak Sharma said that every student has the right to follow his religious beliefs and traditions and this should be respected. When the university administration had made arrangements for satvik food in the mess, trying to forcibly serve non-vegetarian food in it is not only insensitive but also ideological terrorism
