New Delhi: While the hashtag "All eyes on" has been trending on social media, highlighting atrocities in places like Rafah and Congo, many are now using the counterpoint "But no eyes on Manipur" to draw attention to the state's neglected crisis.

Understanding the "All eyes on" trend

The "All eyes on" movement emerged as a way to show solidarity with victims of conflict and raise awareness of humanitarian crises around the world. It began with "All eyes on Rafah" following an Israeli military attack that killed over 40 civilians in Gaza. Similar posts soon appeared for Congo, highlighting the decade-long conflict plaguing the African nation.

Social media users amplify Manipur's plight

Across various platforms, individuals are sharing posts with the hashtag "But no eyes on Manipur," often accompanied by news articles, videos, or images showcasing the state's struggles. These posts shed light not only on the ongoing ethnic violence between the Kuki and Meitei communities, which has claimed over 200 lives and displaced over 50,000 people, but also on the devastation caused by natural disasters like floods.

The UN sounds alarm

The international community has acknowledged the gravity of the situation in Manipur. In a statement last year, the UN highlighted the conflict between the predominantly Hindu Meitei and Christian Kuki communities, citing reports of over 160 deaths, widespread displacement, and significant destruction of homes, churches, and farmland.

Seeking attention to Manipur crisis

The "But no eyes on Manipur" movement urges the public and media to turn their attention to the ongoing crisis in the northeastern Indian state. By amplifying the voices of those affected and sharing information about the situation, the movement aims to raise awareness and advocate for solutions to the conflict and humanitarian challenges in Manipur.
