Mia Khalifa Karwa Chauth: In a bizarre incident that has captured the attention of social media users, an elderly man from Bihar observed the traditional Karwa Chauth fast, not for his wife but for ex-porn star turned social media influencer, Mia Khalifa. A video of the man performing the ritual with Mia Khalifa's photo in place of his spouse's has since gone viral, sparking both amusement and outrage online.
Mia Khalifa, a global social media sensation, has millions of followers worldwide, many of whom admire her for her style and fashion statements. However, one fan in India took his admiration to a new level by observing a full-day Karwa Chauth fast, a ritual typically undertaken by married women for their husbands' long life, and broke it by gazing at a photo of Mia Khalifa.
The elderly man was seen performing the festival's sacred rituals, including an aarti (prayer) with an earthen lamp and a sieve, all directed toward Mia Khalifa's photo. This unusual act quickly made waves across social media, with many netizens sharing and commenting on the video.
In the viral footage, the man, dressed in a traditional Sherwani, can be seen holding a thali (plate) with the traditional Karwa Chauth elements—a lit earthen lamp and a sieve—while performing an aarti in front of Mia Khalifa's picture. Another video soon surfaced online, showing a similar act, where another man carried out Karwa Chauth rituals with Mia Khalifa's photo stuck to the wall.

While it is speculated that these videos were made for entertainment purposes, the viral content has received mixed reactions across social media.
The peculiar nature of the video has left the internet divided. Some viewers found the content humorous, dropping laughter emojis and joking about the unusual display of devotion. On the other hand, others felt that the act was disrespectful to the sanctity of the Hindu festival, which involves fasting and prayers for the well-being of one's spouse.
Some social media users accused the videos of "ridiculing Hindu rituals," while others shrugged it off as a joke. Regardless of the intent, the viral videos have triggered widespread conversation around the cultural implications of such acts.
In 2024, Karwa Chauth was celebrated on Sunday, October 20. Traditionally, married women fast from sunrise until moonrise, praying for the health and longevity of their husbands. In recent times, men have also begun observing the fast as a gesture of love and equality. The fast is usually broken by offering prayers to the moon, looking through a sieve, and then consuming food and water to end the fast.
