Bengaluru: In a chilling discovery, the decomposed and naked body of a woman, believed to be around 25 years old and hailing from West Bengal, was uncovered in a third-floor room of a residential building in Chandapura, southeast Bengaluru. The building, owned by a techie, was rented out to tenants, one of whom is suspected to be involved in the woman's demise.

Discovery, investigation

The grim finding was made on Monday morning when the landlady, Sangeth Gupta, stumbled upon the distressing scene. Police, responding to the call, also recovered drugs and a syringe from the room, indicating potential substance abuse or foul play.

Police suspect the woman was sexually abused before her untimely death, although conclusive evidence awaits the autopsy report. The victim was last seen with a man in his 40s, whose identity and connection to the incident are under scrutiny.

"We couldn’t make out if there are any injuries on the body of the deceased as it was highly decomposed. The autopsy report will help determine the cause of death and whether there was any sexual assault," a police officer stated.

Tenant's suspicious behavior

The investigation has unveiled concerning details surrounding the tenant, identified as Safan from Odisha. Safan had rented the premises last December, paying rent and advance amounts. However, he disappeared for a period before reappearing in January, claiming his wife would join him soon.

Further suspicion arose when, on February 28, the landlady encountered a different man and a woman in the rented room. Safan provided vague explanations, alleging the duo to be acquaintances who would vacate shortly.

A disturbing discovery

On March 10, the Gupta couple made a shocking discovery when they found the door ajar and a foul odor emanating from the room. Upon investigation, they found the woman's highly decomposed body, covered with a blanket, suggesting efforts to conceal the gruesome scene.

Mallikarjun Baldandi, SP of Bengaluru District, revealed the recovery of a white powder-like substance and a syringe from the room, hinting at possible drug involvement in the tragedy.

Ongoing investigation

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are working to ascertain the identity of the deceased and unravel the circumstances leading to her demise. The whereabouts of Safan and his associate remain unknown, with their phones switched off, complicating the efforts to gather crucial information.
