MUMBAI: A speeding BMW collided with a couple on a two-wheeler in Mumbai's Worli this morning, resulting in the woman's death, according to police reports. The incident occurred at 5:30 am as the couple, from Worli's Koliwada area, was returning home with fish from Sassoon Dock.

The BMW struck their two-wheeler from behind, causing it to overturn and throwing both the husband and wife onto the car's bonnet. The husband managed to jump off to save himself, but his wife, burdened by the heavy load, was unable to do so and was crushed by the vehicle.

What exactly happened?

The injured woman was rushed to Nair Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. The husband is currently receiving treatment. The driver of the BMW fled the scene. Worli Police have detained the car owner, Rajesh Shah, a local leader of Shiv Sena (Shinde) in Palghar. Police suspect Shah’s son was driving the car at the time of the accident and have launched an operation to apprehend him and the driver.

Police's take

A detailed investigation is underway. Senior Mumbai Police officials have arrived at the Worli Police Station, and the case is expected to be formally registered at the police station soon. Further details are awaited as the investigation is coming through. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify and detect the real culprit who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
