Omaha's Zoo and Aquarium in Nebraska made headlines after revealing the astonishing discovery of 70 coins inside the stomach of a 36-year-old white alligator during a routine care procedure. The zoo shared the news on their Instagram page, sparking widespread attention and garnering thousands of reactions.

Omaha's Zoo and Aquarium disclosed the unexpected findings, with the captions, "Our veterinarians identified some metal foreign objects in the stomach of an iconic resident of the Zoo: 36-year-old leucistic American alligator, Thibodaux."

The zoo's veterinary team conducted a procedure to remove the coins from the alligator's stomach to prevent any potential health complications.

How did vets get rid of coins inside the gator?

Christina Ploog, an associate veterinarian at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium, led the intricate procedure. Speaking about the process, Ploog said, "With the help of his training, Thibodaux was anaesthetised and intubated to allow us to safely manage him during the procedure." 

She further elaborated on the precautionary measures taken, explaining, "A plastic pipe was placed to protect his mouth and safely pass the tools used to access the coins, such as a camera that helped us guide the retrieval of these objects."
