AI to Climate change: Here’s what PM Modi-Bill Gates discussed in freewheeling chat

During a free-flowing conversation on Friday at the PM's residence, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence, digital public infrastructure, and measures to address climate change.

PM Modi also discussed how AI was utilized during 2023 G20 Summit, how his Hindi speech was translated into Tamil during Kashi Tamil Sangamam event and the use of AI in NaMo App.

PM said, "...Historically, during the first and second industrial revolutions we lagged behind because we were a colony. Now, in the midst of a fourth industrial revolution, the digital element is at its core. I am confident that India will gain a lot in this."

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Technology

Both PM Modi and Gates discussed the role of AI in various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, and education. They explored how AI can be leveraged to solve complex problems and improve efficiency in public services. PM Modi highlighted the use of link between AI and every day’s life. 

Climate Change and Sustainability

Given their shared interest in environmental issues, PM Modi and Gates delved into discussions about sustainable development, renewable energy technologies, and strategies to mitigate climate change. Gates, in particular, has been involved in initiatives related to clean energy and climate adaptation.

During the discussion PM Modi showed the jacket he was wearing to Gates, which was made of recycled materials. He also found mentioned the initiatives taken about India's climate mitigation initiatives.

Public Health and Vaccination

The conversation also delved upon global health challenges, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. They both discussed the vaccination efforts, healthcare infrastructure, and the role of technology in healthcare delivery.

Discussing the Digital revolution in India as well as the Health, Agriculture and Education sectors in India. PM Modi said, "During the G20 Summit in Indonesia, representatives from around the world expressed their curiosity about the digital revolution in the country. I explained to them that we have democratized technology to prevent monopoly. It is by the people and for the people.."

PM Modi's emphasized on digital governance in India and Gates' experience in technology innovation could lead to discussions on digital transformation, e-governance models, and the potential of digital platforms to empower citizens and drive economic growth. PM also discussed about 'Namo Drone Didi' scheme and explained how it helped promoting technology in the country.
