In a disturbing incident, an Ahmedabad man recently became the target of a well-planned scam orchestrated by a woman he met on a dating app. What began as a casual hookup turned into a nightmarish blackmail scheme, leaving the man emotionally and financially drained.

The victim, who wished to remain anonymous, shared his ordeal in a heartfelt account. "Yesterday, I went through hell, and I am typing this with a lot of pain. I don't know why, but I feel like a criminal because of what I did," he expressed. After matching with a beautiful girl on Tinder, they agreed to meet. Their evening began with a movie, followed by dinner at a fine restaurant. Later, they checked into an OYO hotel where their consensual encounter would soon take a dark turn.

Their intimacy was abruptly interrupted by a loud knock on the door. To his horror, three men posing as police officers entered the room and accused him of rape and illegal prostitution. Despite his protests that there was no exchange of money and the encounter was consensual, the men demanded a bribe to "close the case."
When he refused, the woman revealed a video of their encounter, alongside a list of his social media contacts, including family members. The group threatened to leak the footage unless he paid them immediately.

The extortion

According to the post, they took Rs 8,500 in cash from his wallet and forced him to transfer Rs 87,000 via Google Pay, leaving him with an empty wallet and a shattered sense of trust. "India is full of evil people. Don’t trust any random girl on Tinder or any dating app, especially those who agree to sex. You may lose more than you can imagine," he warned others.

Reluctance to file a complaint

Despite being advised to file an FIR, the victim hesitated, fearing the social repercussions. "I have an elder sister who thinks highly of me, and I don't want to ruin my image in front of her," he confessed, opting to swallow the experience as a harsh lesson rather than seek justice.
