An aircraft carrying the banner with the slogan "Release Imran Khan” was spotted over the stadium during Sunday's India vs Pakistan match in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 in New York.

‘Release Imran Khan’ was the slogan that was flying in the skies of New York.

Notably, Imran Khan (71), the ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan who led the country from 2018 to 2022, has been detained in Adiala Jail since August 2023 on several allegations, including those related to the un-Islamic marriage case, the Toshakhana case, and the cipher issue.

It is important to remember that Imran Khan guided Pakistan to victory in the nation's lone ODI World Cup in 1992.
Pakistan went under general elections in February, this year.

However, allegations were raised on the fairness of the elections, and several parties, especially the PTI alleged rigging and lack of a level playing field in the polls.

Meanwhile, coming to the match, India defeated Pakistan in the ongoing T20 World Cup. While Babar Azam-led Pakistan suffered a humbling loss to associate member US, Rohit-led Team India began their T20 WC campaign with a commanding 8-wicket victory over Ireland.

At Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, India defeated Pakistan by 6 runs, thanks to an outstanding spell bowled by Jasprit Bumrah. Pakistan needed 47 runs per delivery to reach 73 for 3 in 12.1 overs, considerably short of their target of 120. However, Bumrah's brilliant bowling changed the course of the game.
