Viral News: Two zoos in China have recently faced public outrage for their controversial attempts to attract visitors by dyeing animals to resemble exotic species. The backlash highlights concerns over animal welfare and deceptive marketing strategies.

Zoo in Zibo faces backlash for painting donkeys

In a bizarre stunt, a zoo in Zibo City, Shandong Province, painted donkeys with black and white stripes to pass them off as zebras. The poor execution of the paint job was quickly noticed by parkgoers, who expressed their dismay over the unethical treatment of the animals. The revelation of this deception sparked widespread criticism online, with many accusing the zoo of misleading visitors for the sake of profit.

In response to the outcry, zoo representatives admitted that the act was part of a marketing strategy aimed at attracting more visitors. A staff member defended the stunt, saying, "The owner did it just for fun," but their explanation failed to calm the growing tide of criticism. The zoo assured that the dye used on the animals was non-toxic, but concerns over the animals' well-being continued to mount. Critics condemned the zoo for treating the donkeys unfairly, accusing the management of putting entertainment before ethical standards.

Similar controversy at a zoo in Taizhou with ‘Tiger Dogs’

In a separate incident, another Chinese zoo, the Qinhu Bay Forest Animal Kingdom in Taizhou, sparked outrage after allegedly dyeing Chow Chow dogs in black and orange to resemble tigers. The scandal emerged after footage shared on Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok) showed the brightly colored dogs confined to wooden enclosures. The video quickly went viral, drawing sharp criticism from social media users who exposed the zoo's deception.

As the video gained traction, viewers wasted no time in pointing out the obvious: "Isn’t that just a dog?" one user asked, while others joked about the absurdity of the situation. "They definitely don’t dare to bathe their dogs for fear of discoloration," quipped another, with a third user humorously noting, "A big tiger with a dog-like temper!" The zoo later admitted to the marketing stunt, clarifying that the dogs had been dyed as part of a promotional gimmick.

Zoo defends dyeing practices, but public outrage continues

Despite the zoo's claims that the dye used on the dogs posed no harm, the public remained outraged by the ethical implications of such a stunt. The zoo clarified, "It was a native Chow Chow dyed into a ‘tiger dog,’ not a tiger," but their defense did little to quell the growing anger among animal rights activists and social media users alike.
