After a dramatic OpenAI Saga which reinstated Sam Altman as CEO, the reason why Altman was fired from the company is still unclear. However, several reports highlighted a new major development in the company, which could be among the many reasons that removed Altman from the board.

Reuters's reports suggested that Q-Star (Q*) is a new model, which is under development that could provide a breakthrough in the company's hunt for artificial general intelligence (AGI).

What is AGI?

The OpenAI has defined AGI as the autonomous systems that outperform human intelligence in most 'economically valuable tasks'. However, the researchers also mentioned that this could threaten the whole of humanity.

The report also claimed that researchers had sent a letter to the top authority informing them about the threats of the new invention. Following the incident Sam Altman was fired One day later.

What is Q-Star?

According to the research, Q-Star will be able to do arithmetic at the level of grade-school students. Even though it might not seem like much, given ample computing power, the AGI has demonstrated potential in solving some mathematical puzzles. Researchers are quite enthusiastic about Q-Star's future potential in light of this accomplishment.

An artificial generalizer (AGI) can learn, grasp, and perform a restricted amount of operations, unlike a calculator. This is a substantial advancement in AI.
