Warning! Govt alerts smartphone users to disconnect these calls

The TRAI urge people to report fraud calls on its ‘Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communications’ feature on the Sanchaar Saathi portal.

Amid rising numbers of fraud activities, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a warning to mobile phone users to stay alert and disconnect the scam calls. According to one of the recent updates, TRAI has clarified that it is not responsible for blocking such numbers of telecom customers. It is worth to be noted that the latest move has come after the scammers are reportedly calling users and threatening them with mobile number disconnection.

Taking it to an official source, the Department of Telecommunications has urged people to disconnect the threatening calls on behalf of the department. It says, “We are not making any such calls. Official communication if any will be from your mobile operator’s official website, app, or authorized stores.” The department also asks people to report such fraud calls on its ‘Chakshu-Report Suspected Fraud Communications’ feature on the Sanchaar Saathi portal.

Apart from this, the official website also mentions the kind of fraud activities that people may can experience. Few examples of suspected fraud communications are communication related to Bank Account / Payment Wallet / SIM / Gas connection / Electricity connection / KYC update / expiry / deactivation, impersonation as Government official etc.

The department also warns people to verify, how many connections are registered in their name and report any connection that does not belong to their name. Additionally, it also asks people to report any kind of cybercrime activity in 1920 or via www.cybercrime.gov.in. It is also advisable to share any personal information like aadhaar number, account details, and passwords over the phone, especially the unsolicited callers.
