Meta Platform’s Twitter rival ‘Threads’ might be launching a web version soon in order to reverse the decreasing user activity in the platform, media reports said.

While ‘Threads’ had been generating significant attention since its introduction at the beginning of June, it has been losing a significant number of users due to a lack of functionalities and an immature algorithm.

In fact, media reports emerged in the last few weeks indicating that Threads had experienced a significant drop in subscribers, losing over half of its initial user base. Analytics website Sensor Tower said that the daily active user count of Threads has dropped by 82% since its launch.

Threads to get significant developments, says Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg

In response to these challenges, Meta is taking steps to enhance Threads’ appeal and retain users. According to a report by the news agency Reuters, the company is planning to introduce a mention button, enabling users to easily mention other accounts in Threads posts.

Furthermore, a web version of the app is reportedly in the works, offering users the convenience of accessing Threads from their desktops. This move aims to provide a more seamless experience, similar to how users interact with Twitter.

Additionally, Meta is exploring the addition of a search functionality within Threads in the upcoming weeks, enhancing the app’s usability and navigational capabilities.

In a Threads post, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote, “A good week for Threads. The community here is on the trajectory I expect to build a vibrant long term app. Lots of work ahead but excited about the team’s pace of shipping. Search and web coming in the next few weeks.”

The previous media reports of user decline prompted Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg to address the situation during an internal town hall. While acknowledging the challenges, he stated that such attrition was a common occurrence and expressed optimism that improvements in retention rates would be achieved as the company introduced more features to the platform.
