Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 91 FM transmitters across 18 states and two union territories on Friday to increase FM radio connectivity in border regions and wealthy districts. These transmitters will serve more than 85 districts across the nation, increasing coverage by 35,000 square kilometres.

The service will benefit additional two crore people who did not have access to the service so far. “These FM transmitters will play a key role in a range of services be it timely dissemination of information, weather forecast for agriculture or connecting the women self-help groups with new markets,” PM Modi said during the inauguration.

PM Modi claimed that the nation’s technological development gave radio a new face and attracted new listeners and the government is always attempting to democratise technology.

It should be noted that the extension happens two days before the airing of 100th episode of Mann ki Baat, PM’s monthly radio show.

With a particular focus on improving coverage in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Ladakh, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, 91 new 100 W FM transmitters have been installed in 85 districts.

PM further added, “Our generation has been an emotional audience of Radio, and for me, it’s a matter of happiness that along with being the audience, I have become a host too. I am soon going to host the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’; the deep connection with people all across the nation would not have been possible through any other medium than the Radio.”

“To ensure affording opportunities to every person, making modern technology Accessible and Affordable is a pre-requisite. The way the optical fibres are penetrating the villages and the way the mobiles and data have seen the cost-reductions have eased the Access to Information,” he noted.

Talking about digital entrepreneurs, he said that they are emerging from every nook and corner of the country. Even the street vendors are using the UPI now; they are availing the banking facilities. Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is playing an important role in helping small industries to grow and develop. The role of technology has increased in every aspect of people’s lives now.

Talking about Padma Awards

Talking about the Padma Awardees, PM asserted that Padma honours are now awarded based on their contribution to society not based on someone’s approach. He said, “In the last 9 years, we have bestowed honours upon the Real Heroes of the nation. The Padma honours, unlike before, are now awarded based on service to the society and the nation; these are no longer awarded based on ‘Approach’.

When we think of connectivity, images of roads, trains, and airports frequently come to mind. However, in addition to physical connectivity, our government has placed equal focus on enhancing social connectivity, he added. Additionally, our administration is enhancing both cultural and intellectual connectedness. Through the Padma Awards, Literature Awards, and Art Awards, we have recognised Real Heroes from all over the nation over the past nine years.

The social and emotional connectivity has increased after the establishment of the PM Museum and National War Museum. People are more connected after this.

Mentioning the same, he said, “The rising footfall in the tourist destinations is a testimony to the increasing cultural connectivity in the nation. Also, emotional and intellectual connectivity is being strengthened in the nation through the establishments like PM Museum and National War Memorial, to name a few. Connectivity, be it any form, connects the nation!”

Notably, the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ will be aired on April 30, which will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
