Elevators are vital to modern existence, whisking us effectively between floors in homes and commercial buildings. While typically safe and dependable, there may be a small risk you might come upon a scenario wherein the elevator gets stuck. Being stuck in an elevator may be nerve-wracking, but  staying calm and following the proper safety features of an elevator will ensure a secure and quick resolution.

Why it gets stuck?

  • Sometimes in a hurry we end up overloading the lift. However, keeping in mind the safety of avoiding accidents, overloading should be avoided. There is a loading limit for any lift, if you exceed it then it may cost you heavily.
  • If you are stuck in the lift by mistake or due to some technical fault, then first of all use the alarm button given in the lift. After doing this, call the people closest to you and tell them that you are stuck in the lift.
  • Keep an eye on the lift you use daily, the lift needs servicing from time to time. Keep an eye on every update of the lift whether it has been serviced or not. Regular servicing of lift reduces technical problems.
  • Before going into any lift, check whether it has a phone or alarm system to deal with emergency situations. If it is not installed then ask to get all this installed in it.

What to do now?

  • The first thing to do is to press the alarm button, this will let the lift manager or the entire building know that someone is stuck in the lift. With this, someone will reach to help you as soon as possible. After this, press the phone button given in the lift and inform the security guard about your getting stuck in the lift.
  • If the lift has stopped then avoid panic, it can spoil your health. In such a situation, instead of reducing, the problem may increase. (Your blood pressure may increase, which may increase the risk of death)
  • In such a situation, keep your mind calm and complete the necessary work, inform as many people near you as possible so that they can reach out to help you.
  • One should never forcefully open the door from inside the lift or stop it by hand. This action can put you in more trouble.
  • Do not try to use the lift in case of fire or earthquake. Do not send small children in the lift. If you are sending someone alone for any reason, then give them complete information about how to use the lift and what to do if they get stuck. Send children in the lift only after explaining them thoroughly.
