Tech: Elon Musk's satellite internet service Starlink is now going to start in India soon. For this, the company has partnered with the country's leading telecom companies Jio and Airtel. Starlink's entry is being considered as the beginning of a new era of Digital India, especially for those areas where there is still no internet access.

What is Starlink?

Starlink is a satellite-based internet service that provides internet service through thousands of small satellites present in low Earth orbit. Its purpose is to connect areas where traditional mobile networks or broadband connections have not yet reached.

How will the picture change?

About 5% of India's population still lives in areas where network coverage is negligible. Starlink can deliver internet to these 'dark spots' without any ground infrastructure. According to telecom expert Anil Kumar, during natural disasters when the towers located on the ground do not work, connectivity can continue through Starlink.

Expensive in the beginning, but for everyone in the future

Starlink service may be more expensive than traditional internet in the initial phase and it is possible that its reach will be limited to high-income groups or business users at first. But as happened with mobile phones, over time this service can also reach the common people.

Existing companies will get tough competition

The biggest feature of Starlink is that it builds satellites itself, launches them and also provides service itself. This completely indigenous system makes it different from existing telecom operators like Jio and Airtel. In such a situation, competition in the market will increase and Indian customers will get the benefit of better service.

What will be the benefit?

  • High-speed internet in remote areas
  • Network operational even during natural disasters
  • Promoting digital education and telemedicine
  • Inspiration for the existing telecom sector to adopt new technology

Starlink's entry will definitely give a new shape to the internet world in India and will also connect those areas which were till now untouched by the digital age.
