Sam Altman to be back as OpenAI CEO

Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D'Angelo.

OpenAI on Wednesday announced that the company have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D'Angelo.

OpenAI though its official X handle announced the same, quoting, “We are collaborating to figure out the details. Thank you so much for your patience through this.”

Sam Altman was ousted as company CEO last week and has been reappointed as company CEO.
Responding to OpenAI, Altman tweeted, "I am looking forward to returning to OpenAI," Sam Altman said in a post on X.

Greg Brockman, who was also fired along with Altman will also return to OpenAI. 

Taking to his X account, Brockman tweeted, “Returning to OpenAI & getting back to coding tonight.”

The announcement from the tech company has come after OpenAI named ex-Twitch boss Emmett Shear as interim CEO on Monday.

Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft who welcomed Sam Altman, a couple of days back on board, has now responded to Altman’s tweet, stating, “We are encouraged by the changes to the OpenAI board. We believe this is a first essential step on a path to more stable, well-informed, and effective governance. Sam, Greg, and I have talked and agreed they have a key role to play along with the OAI leadership team in ensuring OAI continues to thrive and build on its mission. We look forward to building on our strong partnership and delivering the value of this next generation of AI to our customers and partners.”
