The southern state of Kerala is gearing up to provide extensive training in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to around 80,000 secondary school teachers. Organized by Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), the program aims to revolutionize teaching practices and transform the educational landscape across India.

What is motive of KITE program?

Scheduled to commence on May 2, the three-day program will equip educators teaching Classes 8 to 12 with essential AI skills by August 2024. Through hands-on sessions in Prompt Engineering and Machine Learning, teachers will learn to craft precise prompts crucial for effective AI utilization and engage in programming mechanisms.

Empowering educators

The overarching goal of the training is to empower teachers to personalize learning activities for individual students and cater to diverse learning needs, including students with disabilities. Teachers will be trained to employ specialized AI tools for document summarization, distilling complex information from various sources into concise summaries.

Enhancing classroom engagement

Teachers will also learn to create subject-specific visuals, transform them into cartoons or paintings, and seamlessly integrate text to enhance classroom engagement. Data visualization techniques will be explored to create dynamic presentations, animations, and customized tables, graphs, and charts.

What are guidelines behind KITE project?

Each training batch will consist of 25 teachers equipped with laptops and mobile devices. Dedicated G-Suite accounts provided by KITE will ensure data privacy during AI tool usage. KITE has outlined meticulous guidelines to cultivate responsible AI usage among teachers, addressing potential risks associated with AI, privacy concerns, and algorithm biases.

KITE's Chief Executive Officer, K Anvar Sadath, highlighted the program's focus on cultivating responsible AI usage. A team of 180 Master Trainers has completed a rigorous one-month AI training program, setting the stage for widespread AI adoption in Kerala's secondary education sector.
