India offers one of the best food delivery systems accessible, allowing people to experience their favourite foods in minutes from the comfort of their own homes. Previously, Zomato and Swiggy dominated the meal delivery tech industry by providing users with competitive discounts. The Indian government, on the other hand, has now built a new platform called ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce), which is emerging as a strong challenger to these existing firms. ONDC allows establishments to sell food directly to customers without the use of a third party such as Zomato or Swiggy.

Despite the fact that the food delivery software platform (ONDC) has been in operation since September 2022, it is only recently gaining prominence. According to sources, it has passed the 10,000 daily order milestone and is becoming more popular. Many individuals have uploaded screenshots comparing meal delivery prices from ONDC, Swiggy, and Zomato in recent days, with ONDC being relatively cheaper.

What is ONDC?

The Indian government established the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), which allows restaurants to offer products directly to consumers while also delivering groceries, home décor, cleaning supplies, and other things, comparable to Swiggy’s Instamart, Zepto, and Blinkit. ONDC began operations in Bengaluru in September 2022 and has since extended to several cities. The platform is growing in popularity and drawing customers looking for exceptional bargains.

As we analyse the latest player in the food tech business, it is discovered that ONDC offers much lower prices than other platforms such as Swiggy and Zomato. For example, the total cost of four McDonald’s burgers and four big fries on Zomato and Swiggy was Rs 702 and Rs 768, but it was only Rs 639 on ONDC.

ONDC provides a variety of options, such as groceries, cleaning supplies, and cuisine from various restaurants, which can be accessed using the Paytm app. However, because ONDC is a relatively new platform, not all eateries have yet collaborated with it. Users can order meals from ONDC by visiting the ONDC meals area of the Paytm app and selecting their chosen restaurant.
