Nothing, the new company launched by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has been making waves in the market since its inception. Its first venture into the smartphone industry, the transparent and illuminated Nothing Phone (1), was a huge success, selling over 650,000 units worldwide. People are now eagerly awaiting the release of its successor, the Nothing Phone (2), which the company has officially teased.

Nothing has taken advantage of the approaching launch of the Google Pixel 7a to generate interest in its upcoming smartphone. Phone (2) will be available in Summer 2023, according to an official tweet from the firm, which also revealed a glimpse of its transparent back panel.

Phone (2), like the previous model, will be offered exclusively on Flipkart in India. The landing page has already been created, highlighting improvements such as a high-end design and chipset. The Nothing Phone (2) will have the following features and enhancements.

Design of Nothing (2)

It is speculated that the design of Nothing Phone (2) includes a transparent panel, as expected, similar to the Nothing Phone (1). The panel displays the white textured plastic that covers the internal components, as well as the glyph light strip (not shown illuminated) and the red recording indicator. Notably, the Phone (2) has a new indication that is no longer round like its predecessor.

Although other aspects of the upcoming Phone’s design are not visible in the image, we can make a reasonable assumption. The “Glyph” lights will most certainly remain a distinguishing element of this Phone, and we can expect new and intriguing functionalities thanks to the in-house software team. However, contrary to popular belief, the glyph lights will remain white, rather than RGB, as in the previous version. Furthermore, the company may change the location of the glyph lights on the rear panel.

The front of the smartphone appears to have a symmetrical bezel encircling the display. It remains to be seen whether the Phone (2) will be compared to the iPhone or if the design will undergo considerable alterations.

Other important features

The forthcoming Nothing phone will undoubtedly be more powerful and significantly faster than its predecessor, with the company already confirming the chipset that would be utilised in the gadget. The Phone (2) would use a Snapdragon 8-series CPU, which was announced at MWC 2023, although neither Nothing nor Qualcomm confirmed the specific processor name. However, Qualcomm’s Alex Katouzian accidentally revealed that the Phone (2) would be powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset in a congratulatory LinkedIn post, though he later edited the post to remove the mention of the name. It has to be seen whether this information is correct or whether the Phone (2) will use a different 8-series processor.

Furthermore, the Phone (2) will have at least 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, a 5,000mAh battery and a virtual RAM feature, similar to other popular phone models from Xiaomi, Samsung, or Realme. The gadget will also include an adaptive AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz and bezels comparable to its predecessor.

Nothing created an in-house software team after the launch of Phone (1) to provide a better stock Android experience, which will be one of the most significant upgrades on the Phone (2).

Price of Nothing Phone (2)

Nothing phone (1) was a mid-range product with premium features like wireless charging and a Snapdragon 7-series CPU, priced around Rs 30,000 or 469 Euros. With an enhanced Snapdragon 8-series chipset, new design, software, and maybe better cameras, the price is likely to rise. However, no information on the magnitude of the price increase is currently available.
