Now steaming giant OTT platform will start blocking its users with unauthorised passwords. According to the information shared by the sources, the company will now launch its crackdown on illicit password sharing. the US-based company will make crackdown on people who used the password shared by their family and friends or outside their household.

Sharing the information through an e-mail to its users of Netflix across the US, the company mentioned, “Your Netflix account is for you and the people you live with in your household.”

However, the platform also mentioned that people can also opt for the sharing membership or additional membership profile by paying USD 7.99/ month in addition to the cost of the main subscription.

According to Netflix, the paid sharing service is now available widely but not in all countries. After this move, people will not be able to enjoy the service without paying. Previously, Netflix has already put an end to password sharing in the countries like Canada, Spain, Portugal and New Zealand. Now the company is after users in US and UK.

Key sharing points:

  • The anti-sharing of passwords is currently active in Canada, Portugal, New Zealand and Spain.
  • The crackdown is going to happen in US and UK for which the OTT platform has already informed the users.
  • People who want to share their id and password for the service, have to opt for additional member service at USD 7.99/ month.
  • However, the services for adding the extra member are not available to the user who is using the basic or standard plan. Users who are paying USD 15.49/ month will be allowed to add extra members at the cost of USD 7.99.
  • In addition, the move has not been extended to India yet. And the company may take a while to make this happen as India is a key emerging market.
  • As per reports, the company is currently focusing on the ad-supported plan in the country to grow its service.
