OpenAI’s GPT-4o stands as one of the most advanced AI models globally. However, the recent release of its native Mac app, restricted to select users, has left many Mac enthusiasts yearning for a solution. Thankfully, a workaround has emerged, courtesy of an ingenious user on X, offering a lifeline to Mac users eager to access ChatGPT ahead of the official rollout.

A user named, @diegojimenez on X shared a workaround enabling Mac users with M1 or newer processors and macOS 14 or above to activate ChatGPT via the dedicated app. Unfortunately, the app is not available for older Intel-based Macs as of now.

How to download it?

The ChatGPT app for Mac is not yet listed on the App Store. Instead, users can sideload it from the OpenAI community forum. Once downloaded, double-click the DMG file, drag the icon to the Applications folder, and allow access when prompted.

After installation, open the app, and swiftly log in using your Google or Microsoft account. Immediately close the app using the command + Q shortcut before any login error alerts appear. If done correctly, you can access ChatGPT natively on your Mac upon reopening the app.

Benefits of the Native App

The native ChatGPT app grants access to the latest GPT-4o model for free, although the new voice model is yet to be rolled out. While the mechanism behind this workaround remains unclear, it has been tested and proven effective for activating ChatGPT on a Mac.
