After Twitter announced its blue tick service few days back, Meta has also jumped into it. Facebook and Instagram users will soon be getting the new paid verified badge in the form of ‘Meta Verified’. Meta has confirmed the launch of ‘Meta Verified’ its own similar model to Twitter.

With the Meta Verified subscription, users can get verified on Instagram and Facebook using their government IDs. If the profile is verified, users will get a blue tick next to their names, which has become a status symbol now a days.

Meta Verified is currently being tested in Australia and New Zealand and will be available later this week. The subscription will also offer an extra security feature to help authentic creators fight against fraud accounts. This service is paid and available at Rs 990 per month on the web and around Rs 1240 for iPhone users, respectively.

In India, the price of Meta-Verified is likely to be adjusted to appeal to a wider group of people. According to the information, the company is planning to make it available at Rs 1200, which is going to be more than Twitter Blue and a monthly subscription of Netflix also.

Meta claims that it wants to build a valuable subscription for everyone, including creator, businesses and its community. Meta clarifies that old users will retain their verified badge.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the announcement on his Facebook account. His post reads, “This week we’re starting to roll out Meta Verified — a subscription service that lets you verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support. This new feature is about increasing authenticity and security across our services.”

It was released a few days after Twitter unveiled a related subscription called Twitter Blue that includes a verified badge. Before, users could get verified on Twitter and Meta platforms (Instagram and Facebook) after going through a drawn-out (and confusing) procedure. Although the verified badge originally stood for validity, it has evolved into more of a status symbol.

At least in India, Instagram still allows users to verify using the previous technique. Go to Settings > Account > Request verification to request an Instagram blue badge. Within 24 hours, the platform will review the request and respond.

Additionally, Meta users will receive the 100-star token which can be used to tip Facebook artists every month, along with stickers and reels.

When will Meta Verified available in India?

Meta has not disclosed the launch dates for India so far. The update given by Mark Zuckerberg states that the programme will be expanded to other nations in coming weeks, currently the service is on testing in Australia and New Zealand.

Who is eligible to use Meta Verified?

To use the Meta Verified service, applicants must be older than 18 years old, have a thorough profile, and have a lead image with their face in it. In order to validate the account, they must also meet the minimal activity requirements and present official identity. Business profiles are not permitted to participate in the programme.

Benefits you will get with Meta Verified:

  • A verified badge that you are real and your account has been authenticated through the government’s ID.
  • More protection from frauds with proactive account monitoring
  • Help when you need it with access to a real person for common account issues
  • Increased visibility and reach with prominence in some areas of the platform– like search, comments and recommendations.
  • You can express yourself in unique ways with our exclusive features.  He also added that, “We’re also committed to continuous monitoring and review of reported violations, as well as taking swift action against those who try to evade our systems.”
