Tech News: A major legal challenge has come up for social media giant Mata. During the hearing of the ongoing antitrust case in the US, Meta may get an order to sell its popular platforms WhatsApp and Instagram. Meta has major social media companies like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram and Threads, and now the company has been made serious allegations about these platforms.

The US Competition and Consumer Safety Body have accused Mata that it established a monopoly in the social media sector by purchasing Instagram $ 1 billion in 2012 and WhatsApp in 2014 for $ 22 billion. It is also alleged that Meta has violated the rules while buying these companies and tried to strengthen its hold on a large market.

Do Meta have to sell WhatsApp and Instagram?

In the ongoing legal hearing against Meta, it will be decided whether Mata has deliberately destroyed the competition by purchasing WhatsApp and Instagram. However, before purchasing these companies, Meta was allowed from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), but now FTC assumes that these platforms were acquired by Mata to strengthen its position in the market. If the court gives a verdict in favor of FTC, Meta may have to sell these two companies.

Meta officials questioned

According to reports, the hearing of this antitrust case can last for about 6 weeks. During this time, CEO Mark Zuckerberg of Meta and former COO Sheryl Sandberg of the company can be questioned.

A significant turn for the meta

Meta says that her decision to buy Instagram and WhatsApp was to improve consumers' experience and did not make any kind of monopoly. The company believes that the acquisition of these platforms was a step to promote competition in social media, not to end it. This hearing can prove to be a significant turn for the meta, and if the court ruled in favor of FTC, the company may need to sell both its major platforms.
