Meta has reported a surge in its user base, now boasting an average of 3.24 billion daily active people (DAP) across its suite of apps, marking a 7 percent increase year-over-year. Additionally, Instagram Threads has witnessed substantial growth, with its monthly active users climbing from 130 million in February to over 150 million.
During an earnings call with analysts, Meta's Founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg highlighted the role of Instagram's features in driving engagement. He noted that Instagram, particularly reels and video content, continues to be a major contributor to user interaction, with reels accounting for 50 percent of the app's time spent.
Zuckerberg shared insights into the progress of Instagram Threads, stating, "Threads is growing well too. They're now more than 150 million monthly active users and it continues to generally be on the trajectory that I hope to see."
Meta's first-quarter total revenue soared to USD 36.5 billion, representing a significant 27 percent increase on both reported and constant currency bases. Meanwhile, total expenses for Q1 amounted to USD 22.6 billion, reflecting a 6 percent rise compared to the previous year.
Zuckerberg expressed satisfaction with the company's performance, stating, "It's been a good start to the year. The new version of Meta AI with Llama 3 is another step towards building the world's leading AI. We're seeing healthy growth across our apps and we continue making steady progress building the metaverse as well."
As of March 31, Meta's employee count stood at 69,329, representing a 10 percent decrease year-over-year. Zuckerberg highlighted the company's broad user reach, estimating that over 3.2 billion individuals use at least one of Meta's apps daily, with a notable increase in growth within the US market.
