Infosys has given its employees a number of incentives to move to its Hubli development center due to the immense political criticism for not creating employment for the local people of the state. The company has gotten land from the state government at a subsidies rate.

Relocation to Hubli

Infosys recently announced major incentives to the employees who agree on relocating to the Hubli development center of Infosys after immense criticism from the political leaders for failing to create jobs for the locals around the company’s center. It has been provided the land at Hubli at a subsided price of rupees 35 lakhs per acre in comparison to the original price of rupees 1.5 crore per acre.

Why now?

This action was taken by the company months after BJP MLA Arvind Bellard of the Hubballi Dharwad West constituency flaked the firm for not generating employment for the local people around the center and demanded the withdrawal of the rights to the 58-acre land from the company by the state government.

In the month of February, the BJP MP said in the Karnataka Assembly that Infosys has been provided the land at Hubli at a subsided price of Rs 35 lakh per acre in comparison to the original price of Rs 1.5 crore per acre. He also mentioned that many farmers gave up their land in the hope of getting employment as the Infosys development center would grow and prosper.

What kind of incentives are provided?

As per the sources, Infosys is all set to offer an incentive of Rs 25,000 to its band 3 and below employees if they relocate to Hubli, plus another Rs 25000 will be provided every six months for the next two years by the company. The employees who are willing to compute will also get around Rs 1.25 lakhs by the end of 24 months.

In the same way, band 4 will receive around Rs 2.5 lakhs, band 5 workers will get around Rs 5 lakhs, 6 lakhs for band 6, and 8 lakhs for band 7 employees by the end of 2 years. These are the additional incentives provided on top of the initial one, according to the reports.

Political pressure

In February, in the Karnataka assembly, when similar allegations were made against other industries for not providing employment to the local people, state minister for Commerce and Industries MB Patil made a note that these actions by the companies are a straight violation of Industrial Policy 2020–25, where companies that receive incentives from the government need to provide 100% Group D jobs and overall 70% jobs to the localities. He gave a warning that companies that do not comply with these rules will not have government support.
