The cricket governing body of India, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has lost its golden tick verification on its Twitter account after it changed the profile picture to Indian national flag to support the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Apart from the organisations, several eminent leaders including Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Goa CM Dr Pramod Sawant, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami. BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra has also lost the golden tick on the social media platform.
Notably, the campaign has been initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of India’s 77th Independence Day which invites residents to display the Indian flag on their social media profiles. Honouring the same request, BCCI changed its profile picture to the tricolour. However, they lost the golden tick as a result. BCCI is not the only one to lose the same, cricket commentator Aakash Chopra also lost his golden tick.
BCCI account was verified as cricket body and has BCCI as its profile image.
This is because Twitter removes the golden tick from the accounts that alter their profile picture. Notably, it is a mark that represents a genuine and belongs to a particular belonging or organisation.
Renowned cricket commentator, Aakash Chopra also lost his verification tick from his official handle, following PM Modi’s ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ tricolour campaign.
However, according to the guidelines by Twitter, if someone changes the profile image again, Twitter re-views its account and restores the golden tick verification. So, there are chances that if BCCI changes the profile picture again, Twitter will restore the verification tick.
