Hanooman: The BharatGPT group, supported by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd, is poised to release its inaugural ChatGPT-style service next month. The cutting-edge initiative, led by Reliance and eight affiliated universities, promises to usher in a new era of AI-driven interaction.
In a recent preview of the model, dubbed Hanooman, individuals from diverse backgrounds engaged with the AI bot. Hanooman, the brainchild of the BharatGPT groups is designed to operate in 11 local languages. It will target four critical sectors: healthcare, governance, financial services, and education.
The ambitious project was developed with the collaboration of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) universities and support from Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, which amplifies the project's reach and resources. Notably, other startups such as Sarvam and Krutrim, backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Vinod Khosla’s fund, contribute to the burgeoning ecosystem of open-sourced AI models tailored for the Indian context.
Hanooman will provide AI accessibility through its speech-to-text capabilities. By offering seamless interaction in local languages, the model seeks to bridge linguistic barriers and empower users across diverse sectors. Reliance Jio's commitment to developing customized models further enhances Hanooman's utility, catering to specific use cases and user preferences.
Meanwhile, Reliance is working on Jio Brain, a platform to use AI for 450 million subscribers.
