According to the people who are aware of the developments, the government is working a ChatGPT-like model which can be used to manage grievances of disgruntled consumers. The aim is to create the tool in such a manner that the consumers can converse through audio messages in multiple languages.

The developers are making sure that it is separate from the one that was launched last year for the complaints of the consumers which is not really conversational. Because it does not allow the user to just to put in details like a usual conversation, but instead ask him to choose from the desired options. According to sources, the government’s Bhashini platform will handle the language translation aspect of the new tool being developed, but the challenge is finding a large language model (LLM) that can quickly comprehend problems connected to customer complaints.

A conversational AI chatbot’s LLMs process your prompts when you communicate with it. They help the AI in comprehending your material, dissecting its meanings, and establishing context in order to produce a response. LLMs allows them to better understand the context of the domain as they are trained on domain-specific data that have more exposure to the language used in that particular domain.

The people known to the subject said that a large language model trained on medical data would better understand the jargons and terminology used in the medical, and would be able to answer the medical related quires more accurately. Similarly, in terms of other industries, the similar language would give the best results and as compared to general language data.

However, the other factors such as size and quality of the training data, the architecture of the model, and the quality of the pre-processing and post-processing techniques are also considered in the performance of the LLMs. Interestingly, according to the information, the government has been using ChatGPT to build two of its other important projects- democratisation of school education in the regional languages and spreading awareness about government schemes.

To start, it is developing an educational application using ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot supported by Microsoft, which school children may soon use to get answers to inquiries about their curriculum – in any Indian language. Also, it is creating a different technology that will essentially transform WhatsApp into a search engine for government initiatives. When someone leaves a voice message on a WhatsApp chat about any programme, the tool responds with all the program’s information, including when it began, what goals it aims to achieve, who is eligible to apply, what documents are needed, etc.

The National Plan for AI developed by NITI Aayog in 2018–19 is one example of how the government has previously worked with AI for citizens. Another is the introduction of Digital India Bhashini in July 2022. In order to enable students to ask questions about their curriculum in any Indian language, the government is also developing an educational application using the Microsoft-supported ChatGPT platform.

Although creating a ChatGPT competitor is difficult, integrating conversational AI into its offerings would seem to be the logical next step. Even Google’s Bard AI, with all of its knowledge and resources, finds it difficult to outperform ChatGPT.
