Google's find my device app gets major upgrade: Real-time people tracking now available!

With this significant refresh, Google's Find My Device app is more than just finding lost devices; it's all about tracking gadgets and individuals' locations. As part of the March Android Feature Drop, the new feature, which was being rolled out earlier, is now expanding to other users, says 9to5 Google.

Google, the world's top tech giant, is developing its Find My Device app, which assists in tracing the missing device. The app is now receiving a big update that will allow the users to trace their friends and family members who have the same location.

Android Feature Drop

This new feature, which was included in the March Android Feature Drop, is now being rolled out to additional users, as per 9to5Google. In this update, Google wants to streamline location tracking and put both people tracking and device tracking under the same umbrella to monitor loved ones and misplaced devices from one place.

Find My Device now locates individuals as well

Before, Google Maps was the most commonly used application for sharing and locating real-time locations of friends and relatives. Presently, the Find My Device application has widened its feature range to cover tracking individuals, thereby posing a head-on challenge to Apple's Find My application. Users who have been sharing their location through Google Maps (including iOS users) will now be visible on the Find My Device map interface. This integration makes it possible for you to locate both your lost phone and your loved ones using the same app.

New 'People' tab for simple tracking

Find My Device app has a new "People" tab, which shows the location of contacts who have chosen to share their location with you.Aside from tracking other people, users can also control their location-sharing settings, such as:Setting the length of time that their location is shared with others.Seeing a list of contacts that they have shared their location with.Stopping sharing location at any time. This feature allows for an easier meetup coordination, check on family and friends, and real-time tracking of movement all from a single location.

Google's Find My device receives Apple-style redesign

Google's recent update aligns Find My Device closer to Apple's Find My app. The new interface has a split-screen look with a map at the top and a list of devices or individuals below, depending on which tab you are using.This easy-to-use layout allows users to easily toggle between tracking misplaced devices and viewing shared locations, providing a more streamlined user experience.
