New Delhi: In celebration of Google Chrome's 15th anniversary last month, Google teased a spectacular makeover, promising users a "fresh look and new features." The upcoming redesign is all about embracing the Material You theme, a visual treat originally introduced in Android. Picture this – more rounded corners, updated icons, and bidding farewell to the lock icon in the address bar. It's a Chrome revolution!
Google spilled the beans in a blog post, revealing that Chrome's icons are getting a facelift for enhanced legibility. New color palettes will complement your tabs and toolbar, making it a visual delight. The redesign aims to make profiles, like work and personal accounts, easily distinguishable at a glance. Plus, Chrome will play nice with your operating system's settings, seamlessly adapting to dark and light modes.
While the overall layout retains its familiarity, the user experience promises a breath of fresh air. A nifty drop-down menu on the left neatly organizes open tabs and recently closed ones. Hover over those tabs, and voila – witness sleek horizontal pills with a crisp white line separating them.
Icons and appearances get a makeover with rounded corners taking center stage. The browser's height gets a boost, presenting a more visually appealing interface. One notable change is the absence of the lock icon in the Omnibox, making way for a sleek settings icon. Why? With HTTPS becoming the norm, the lock icon felt redundant. The new settings icon opens up a world of options for connection security, page permissions, cookies, and site data.
Google introduces a pop of color with Material You palettes, offering a delightful array of bright and pastel-like options. A side panel icon, next to your profile icon, grants quick access to bookmarks, reading lists, and history. Speaking of history, it's now categorized for easy navigation based on specific keywords.
