On Monday, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, multi-billionaire Elon Musk, disclosed that he would introduce a new artificial intelligence (AI) platform named “TruthGPT” to take on Google and Microsoft’s AI products.

Truth GPT to outsmart ChatGPT

Earlier, Musk had attacked OpenAI, the company behind the well-known chatbot ChatGPT which Microsoft supports. And he accused it of “training artificial intelligence to lie” and turning into a “closed source” and of being a “for-profit” company that is “closely allied with Microsoft.” He also blamed Larry Page, a Google co-founder, for not taking AI safety seriously.

Musk wants to develop a “maximum truth-seeking AI” that can comprehend the universe more effectively and won’t endanger humans as much as current AI models do.

X.AI Corp: Elon Musk’s new AI company

According to certain sources, Musk has been hiring AI experts from Google to work on a firm that competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The managing director of Musk’s family office is listed as the secretary and the sole director of a new company he recently filed named X.AI Corp. This action was taken despite Musk and a group of AI professionals and business leaders asking for a six-month pause on creating more potent systems than OpenAI’s recently released GPT-4 and highlighting potential threats to society.

Musk reaffirmed his concerns about the risks associated with artificial intelligence during the interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, saying, “Artificial Intelligence is riskier than mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production.” He cautioned that very convincing writing and public opinion manipulation by super intelligent AI could result in “civilisational destruction.”

OpenAI was co-founded in 2015 by Musk, who stepped down from the board in 2018 to concentrate on Tesla and SpaceX. He also took over as CEO of Twitter, which he bought last year for $44 billion. As per the interview, Musk recently valued Twitter at “less than half” of the purchase cost. Microsoft recently disclosed a multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI, escalating rivalry with Google and igniting the Silicon Valley war for Artificial Intelligence funding.
