In a move aimed at enhancing user experience, Brave browser, renowned for its privacy-centric features, has unveiled its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant Leo for Android devices. Originally introduced in November 2023 for desktop browsers, Leo is set to revolutionize browsing on mobile platforms as well. Equipped with advanced capabilities, Leo can execute various tasks typical of an AI assistant, including summarizing web pages, providing answers to queries, engaging in conversations, and even coding.

The announcement was made through a blog post by Brave, revealing that Android users can access Leo by updating their browser to version 1.63. Upon updating, users can simply type in the address bar and activate Leo by clicking on the AI icon, depicted as a four-point star. Additionally, initiating an on-page chat with Leo can be done by tapping the three-dot icon and selecting Leo. Notably, Brave also disclosed plans to roll out Leo for iOS users in the coming weeks.

Features of upcoming AI assistance

Leo's capabilities are extensive, covering a wide array of tasks typically expected from an AI chatbot. From generating webpage summaries to transcribing audio or video content, Leo excels in tasks such as product comparisons, recipe suggestions, and travel itineraries. Notably, users can enjoy Leo's services without the need for account registration or login, aligning with Brave's commitment to privacy.

Specific use case

Unlike conventional AI chatbots, Leo is not tethered to a single large language model (LLM). Instead, users have the flexibility to choose from three LLM options—Mixtral 8x7B (default), Claude Instant, and Llama 2 (13B variant)—depending on their preferences and specific use cases. While the free version provides access to all LLMs with certain usage limitations, the premium version offers higher usage thresholds along with additional features.

For users seeking an enhanced experience, Brave offers Leo Premium, providing priority access to AI models, improved response accuracy, and more. The subscription fee for Leo Premium stands at $14.99 in the US and Rs. 1,450 in India, catering to diverse user preferences and needs.
