Apple iOS 18 Upgrade: Since the groundbreaking launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the AI landscape has witnessed a swift evolution, with tech giants vying to incorporate artificial intelligence tools into their product ecosystems. While companies like Microsoft, Google, and Samsung have taken significant strides in AI integration, Apple has been gearing up to join the race, with plans to unveil its generative AI offerings in the upcoming iOS 18 update.
In a recent update from Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, it was revealed that Apple's foray into generative AI would be a highlight of the iOS 18 release. Internally known as Ajax, Apple's Large Language Model (LLM) has been undergoing rigorous testing since early 2023. The official announcement of Apple's AI advancements is anticipated at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled for June this year.
Apple aims to bring a slew of AI-driven enhancements to its core apps and productivity software, including Pages and Keynote. Among the anticipated features are auto-summarization and auto-completion functionalities. The company is also set to revolutionize the Apple Music experience by leveraging AI for more personalized playlists and recommendations.
Siri, Apple's virtual assistant, is poised for a significant AI overhaul to keep pace with advanced chatbots like ChatGPT and Copilot. While the initial rollout of AI features is expected later this year, Gurman predicts that Apple's comprehensive generative AI vision will achieve full scalability by at least the next year.
In a strategic move, Apple has been in negotiations with publishers to enhance its generative AI systems' capabilities through curated news content. Reports suggest that Apple has proposed multiyear deals, valued at a minimum of $50 million, to license news article archives from reputable publishers like Condé Nast, the New Yorker, NBC News, and more.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously hinted at AI-focused enhancements in the iPhone 16 models, including an upgraded microphone to significantly enhance the Siri experience and voice input. The Siri team has reportedly been actively working on LLMs and other AI features since Q3 2023.
As Apple gears up to unveil its generative AI prowess, the iOS 18 update promises to redefine the user experience, marking a pivotal moment in the company's AI journey. The integration of advanced AI features reflects Apple's commitment to innovation and its pursuit of delivering unparalleled value to its users.
