Alert! Google to delete millions of accounts next month. Is your account safe?

As per Google’s new policy, it is going to delete millions of inactive Gmail accounts including Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar, YouTube, and Google Photos.

As declared earlier, starting next month Google will start deleting accounts that are inactive from last two years. The announcement for the directive was issued in the beginning of this year, in which Google mentioned that it would do so to prevent the security threats including hacks. 

What will happen next?

As per Google’s new policy it will start deleting the unused accounts from December 1, 2023. Google in a blog post, in the month of May spelled out for the activity. The tech giant stated that it would delete the account and content across Google Workspace, which includes Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet and Calendar, as well as YouTube and Google Photos.

The blog posted back in May by Ruth Kricheli, VP, Product Management of Google, reads:

Here’s how you keep your account active?

According to the official blog post, the user needs to simply sign-in at least once every 2 years. If you have signed into your Google Account or any of our services recently, your account is considered active and will not be deleted. Activity might include the following actions when you sign in or while you’re signed in to your Google Account:

  • Reading or sending an email
  • Using Google Drive
  • Watching a YouTube video
  • Downloading an app on the Google Play Store
  • Using Google Search
  • Using Sign in with Google to sign in to a third-party app or service
