Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka arrive in Chennai to attend DMK Women’s Rights Conference

Congress Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have reached Chennai to attend the DMK Women’s Rights Conference on Saturday.

They were received by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, DMK MPs Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and T R Balu upon their arrival at Chennai airport and were also showered with a warm welcome by a number of Congress workers on Friday.

DMK Women’s Rights Conference

The conference will have Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin as the chairperson and aims to put pressure on the central government for the immediate implementation of a 33 per cent reservation of women in Parliament and state assemblies.

The Nandanam YMCA ground has been selected as the venue for this event which was inspected by CM Stalin on Friday. Inivitations were sent by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party’s deputy general secretary K Kanimozh to all the prominent female leaders across the country to be present in this conference.

Accepting the invitation, former president of the All India Congress Party Sonia Gandhi, her daughter Priyanka Gandhi, and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Meghbooba Mufti, women leaders of the parties included in the INDIA Alliance, are going to attend the conference.
