Update (May 16, 2:55 pm): Amid talks in Congress on Karnataka CM, DK Shivakumar arrives in Delhi to meet party high command.
Congress party chief DK Shivakumar was expected to reach Delhi on Monday but due to some reason, he could not make it. And, now as per sources, while leaving for Delhi, Shivakumar has announced that he will not backstab or blackmail. He asserted that their party unites as one and doesn’t want to divide anyone.
Notably, DK Shivakumar and Siddharamaiah were called by the party leaders to Delhi for discussions on the selection of the chief minister of the state.
As per sources, Siddharamaiah is already in Delhi since Monday. And, DK Shivakumar is also expected to reach Delhi soon. Reportedly, the 135 newly-elected Congress MLAs gathered in Bengaluru on Sunday evening, just a day after the Congress party’s overwhelming victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections. They approved a modest resolution authorising AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to choose the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) during the session.
Amid all the speculations for the next chief minister of Karnataka, Shivakumar on Monday said the Congress party has stormed into power and has won 135 seats due to his leadership.
Noteworthy, is that the Congress party has scored an emphatic victory by winning 135 seats in the state assembly elections, whereas Janata Dal-Secular has secured 66 and 19 seats under the leadership of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.
The party now is facing the uphill task of satisfying two, after the stupendous victory of Congress on May 10.
After this, a resolution was passed by the people who were gathered outside the hotel where MLAs were convening to select the CLP leader and to choose the next chief minister for the state.
Shivakumar also celebrated his birthday on Monday after the win and thanked the people who made it possible. Taking it to Twitter, he wrote, “My life is dedicated to serving the people of Karnataka. On the eve of my birthday, the people of Karnataka gave me the best birthday gift possible. Thanks to my Congress family for their warm greetings. #JaiKarnataka”
