The body of a 36-year-old woman, who was claimed to be died due to electrocution by her in-law a couple of days ago, was exhumed in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh as her brother alleged she was killed over a dowry issue, the police said.

Official statements

Speaking to the media, Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Vidyasagar Mishra said that Sunita Devi, the deceased woman, was married to Pappu Pal of Isipur village under the Antu Police station area for 17 years.

According to her in-laws, Devi died of electrocution on July 12 and was buried, the SP said.

However, Devi’s brother was not satisfied with their claims and filed a complaint of dowry death on July 23, following which the body was exhumed on District Magistrate Prakash Chandra Srivastava’s instructions and sent for a post-mortem examination, SP Mishra added.

The probe is undergoing, he said.
