Woman shot dead for drinking alcohol on Patiala gurudwara premises

A woman was fatally shot at the Dukhniwaran Sahib Gurdwara complex in Patiala, Punjab, after allegedly consuming alcohol. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

On Sunday evening, a gurdwara attendant noticed Parminder Kaur consuming alcohol near the sarovar (holy pond).

An argument ensued between the sewadar, Sagar Malhotra, and Parminder Kaur when he attempted to intervene and stop her from consuming alcohol. The situation escalated, leading to the sewadar taking her towards the gurdwara manager’s room, where another sewadar shot her. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Parminder Kaur succumbed to her injuries during transportation.

Sagar Malhotra sustained injuries from the gunfire and is currently receiving medical treatment at Rajendra hospital in Patiala. The police have transferred Parminder Kaur’s body to the same hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police have reported that Parminder Kaur, a resident of Gurubaksh colony and unmarried, is the victim in this incident. An official statement from the police is still pending.
