According to the police officials, the incident took place at the district court complex in Saket, Delhi, on Friday morning, where a woman got injured in a firing inside the court complex. She was promptly rushed to the hospital by the police officials. The police officer also stated that efforts were being made to apprehend the suspect, who had posed as a lawyer and fled through the canteen’s rear door.

Reportedly, the woman was heading for the hearing in a case related to some financial dispute, when she was shot by the person. The officials also said that four rounds were fired.

The accused, a lawyer by profession who is now under bar council suspension, filed a cheating complaint against the woman and an attorney at the Saket police station in July 2022, according to preliminary reports. The accused claimed in his accusation that the woman had taken Rs 25 lakh from him while promising huge profits.

“The accused came up to court this morning dressed as a lawyer. While she was reviewing the matter with her lawyer, he opened fire on the woman. He left through the kitchen’s rear door”, police officials said.

The earlier incident of firing at the court

In the nation’s capital, there has been an alarming increase in violent occurrences that have taken place within judicial buildings.

Today’s incident came after a lawyer was shot dead in Dwarka, Delhi. Notably, the attackers were two men on a bike. There also the attackers posed as lawyers to enter the court.

Following the murder, a petition asking for the safety of legal practitioners was filed with the Delhi High Court. According to the petitioners, their concern for their safety has been “aggravated by seeing the visuals and video of the cold-blooded murder of an influential and senior member of the Bar” and if Delhi’s “Advocates Protection Act” is not passed, the audacity of criminals to commit crimes against lawyers will grow.

Multiple incidents of firing have been reported so far. In a Rohini courthouse on September 24 of last year, two shooters posing themselves as lawyers opened fire on gangster Jitender Maan aka Gogi. In response, police officers are said to have killed the two immediately.

In another incident, following a dispute between two lawyers and their one client in April of last year, there was a shooting incident in the Rohini court. The Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) policeman who was positioned at the court allegedly started shooting on the ground, according to the police.

Delhi CM’s strong reaction to Court’s firing

Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has reacted strongly to the firing incident that happened today at district court Saket.

Lashing out at the government, Kejriwal said that law and order have completely crumbled in the state, and one should resign if one can’t handle it. Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal questioned the LG, “What is happening in Delhi?”
