After discussing how to prepare for the upcoming assembly elections with state leaders, the Congress declared on Thursday that it will work together to reverse the trend of incumbent governments being ousted from office in Rajasthan.

The party’s top brass also pledged to find a solution to the dispute between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot.

The meeting was held in party headquarters and leaders from Rajasthan joined via video-conferencing. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, Venugopal, AICC in-charge of state Sukhjinder Randhawa, state unit chief Govind Singh Dotasra, Pilot, and other senior leaders from Rajasthan were among those present at the meeting. And they asserted that they will reverse the trend and repeat the Congress government in Rajasthan, after the upcoming assembly elections.

According to the sources, corruption of the BJP government, paper leaks, and Rajasthan Public Service Commission reform were topics in the discussion.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot after the meeting announced that they will fight Rajasthan unitedly. “Discussions regarding strategy for Rajasthan Assembly elections were held. Our government has worked on various issues in the state. We will work together to again form the government in the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal while addressing the press conference said that “We will fight in Rajasthan unitedly and we can win (assembly polls) easily. We have decided to select candidates based on winnability. In the first week of September, we will hold discussions and then make a decision regarding the candidates’ list.”

Following the meeting, the party said that Gehlot and Pilot had decided to run in the forthcoming assembly elections together and had deferred decision on any outstanding matters to the party’s high command.

It is important to remember that Gehlot and Pilot have been fighting for control of the state’s government ever since Congress took office there in 2018. Pilot was demoted from his positions as the party’s state unit president and deputy chief minister in 2020 after organising a rebellion against the Gehlot administration.
