The alleged rape and murder of a Class 11 student on Monday in Siliguri, North Bengal, sparked demonstrations in the area, and on Wednesday, a crowd ransacked the home of the main suspect, Md Abbas, 22, who was detained shortly after the alleged crime.

The angry mob vandalised and set the house on fire of the accused.

According to the officials, the minor girl was murdered at an abandoned place in Siliguri’s Matigara area on Monday, when she was on her way to home from her school. The person who purposely attempted to assault the minor girl sexually and then killed her has been arrested, as per DCP Abhishek Gupta, Siliguri Metropolitan police.

Meanwhile, taking note of the situation, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has called for 12-hour bandh in the district on Thursday.

Several organisations in West Bengal‘s Siliguri, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong and others are organising rallies demanding impeccable punishment for the accused.

Meanwhile, Anit Thapa, the chief executive of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), Raju Bista, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha member from Darjeeling and several other politicians have demanded a rapid action by the police.
